So far, Iran's maritime industries have made significant progress in the localization and development of marine technologies, considering its economic and maritime security needs. In order to complete the supply chain of commercial vessels, it is necessary to select appropriate technologies for the local development of marine propulsion. In this regard, the research question is which marine propulsions have priority for technology development in the short-term (next 5 years) and long-term (next 20 years) time frame, considering the country's indicators and conditions. To answer this question, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, the score of marine propulsion options was determined quantitatively in two short-term and long-term time frames based on the determined indicators. The results of the research in the short-term framework showed that the four options with priority are fossil fuel gas turbine with a score of 0.789, non-fossil fuel gas turbine (hydrogen, bio-based) with a score of 0.784, nuclear fuel steam turbine with a score of 0.783, and fossil fuel internal combustion engine with a score of 0.779. Also, the first four options in the long-term framework are nuclear fuel steam turbine, non-fossil fuel internal combustion engine, non-fossil fuel gas turbine, and photovoltaic with scores of 0.735, 0.729, 0.728, and 0.723, respectively.
